On January 8 and 9, sponsored by the Chinese Society of Education (CSE), organized by the Education Commission of Haidian District, Beijing, and Haidian Education Academy, and co-organized by Beijing Yuying School, the “Seminaron Schooling Pattern Innovation in Nine-Year and Twelve-Year Schools for Basic Education” was held in Century Huatian Hotel, Beijing. The Seminar was themed on “enhancing nine-year and twelve-year schools for basic education and promoting the high-quality and balanced development of primary and secondary schools.” Director Chen Ruping of Research Center for Basic Education in National Institute of Education Sciences (NIES), Director Lu Yunquan of Education Commission of Haidian District, and Principal YuHuixiang of Beijing Yuying School delivered keynote speeches respectively titled Qualities of aGood School, On Achieving High-Quality and Balanced Development of Nine-Year and Twelve-Year Schools for Basic Education, and The Only Alma Mater. Meanwhile, four sub-forums were held simultaneously during the Seminar, which were “Innovationin Management Systems and Mechanisms inNine-Year and Twelve-YearSchools,”“Innovation inMoral Education and Education Models in Nine-Year and Twelve-YearSchools,”“Innovation inCurriculum and Teaching Practice in Nine-Year and Twelve-YearSchools,” and “Innovation inFaculty Construction and Management in Nine-Year and Twelve-YearSchools.”
On January 18, the “CSE System Symposium” was held in Jintai Hotel, Beijing. President Zhong Binglin of CSE and other leaders attended the Symposium. Secretary General Yang Nianlu made a report onthe policy environment and approaches for the development of CSE. Professor Tao Chuanjin, Director of Research Center ofPhilanthropy and Social Enterprise inBeijing Normal University (BNU), was invited to the Symposiumto present a special report titled Social Organizations in the Era of Social Governance. During the sharing session, representatives from Tianjin Education Academic Society, Liaoning Education Society, Chengdu Education Society, and Qingdao Education Society, exchanged and shared their experience in handling the new opportunities, new approaches and new measures for developing and reforming the CSE system. More than 80 people attended the Symposium, including presidents, secretaries general, and leaders ofCSE institutional members from various provinces, cities, autonomous regions, cities specifically designated in the state plan across China, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
On March 2, CSE and Beijing Royal School (BRS) held a signing ceremony for bilateral cooperation, whichmarked the official establishment of AQA International A-Level Courses Learning Center in Beijing. BRS is the first international courses learning center in China authorized by the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance (AQA).Vice President Dai Jiagan of CSE and Principal Wang Guangfa of BRS signed a cooperation agreement. Deputy Secretary General You Sen of CSE and AQA representatives attended the ceremony.
On March 10, Vice President Dai Jiagan and Secretary General Yang Nianlu of CSE, and Chief Executive Andrew Hall of AQA held an in-depth talk on the establishment of “AQA International A-Level Teacher Training System.”
On March 16, President Zhong Binglin presided over the “2016 Education Salon &Drafting Seminarfor Documents on Education Modernization” of CSE. TheSalonwas themed on “An Outlook onModernization of Basic Education in China Toward 2030.”The experts argued and discussed such relevant issues as “enriching and expanding modernization of basic education” and “prospects of modernization of basic education in China (2030),” so as to perform the top-level planning and lead the direction for the drafting of Basic Education in China 2030 (academic version).
On the evening of March 18, the “Press Conference of the 2016 International Youth Volunteer Project” launched by CSE was held in Beijing Jiaotong University. The theme of the Conference was “Encounters in Every Part of the World.”
On March 29, the cooperation program of providing professional support to Shijia Education Group by CSE was launched at Shijia Primary School.
On April 9, CSE held the“2016 Annual Working Conference&SixthPlenary Sessionof the Seventh Board of Directors”in Beijing.
On the morning of April 13, the activity “Introducing Egyptian Artists to School Students: An Art Exchange,” jointly organized by the Basic Education International Exchange and Research Center of CSE and Beijing Women’s International Center, was held in Beijing Affiliated Elementary School of Chaoyang Normal School. More than 200 teachers and students participated in this activity.
On April 20, CSE launched the second phase of the activity “My Job & My Dream,” a contest of short teaching videos, jointly with QQ.com. During the activity, the panel received more than 100 videos from 25 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. From January 22 to March 31, 2016, the videos were presented on the CSE website, getting more than one million hits in total. The rankings were based on the number of hits of each video, and the owners of the top 20 videos were presented with certificates and awards.
On April 21, the Founding Assembly of the Aesthetic Education Center of CSE &Colloquium on “The Role and Value of Aesthetic Education in Basic Education” was held in ShijiaHutong Elementary School in Dongcheng District, Beijing.
On April 24 and 25, the Founding Assembly of Research and Promotion Center for Situational Education of CSE, and the first popularization activity of situational education,jointly sponsored by CSE and People’s Education Magazine Press,was held in the No.2 Primary School Attachedto Nantong Normal College.
On the afternoon of May 7, the Founding Assembly &Working Seminarof Research Center for Art Education of CSE was held in the International Exchange Center of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music (ZJCM).
On the morning of May 14, the opening ceremony of the second intensive training session of the “Development and Promotion Project for RuralEducators” was held in Chengdu Jiaxiang Foreign Languages School (Beicheng Campus). The public program was sponsored by CSE, organized by Sichuan Association for Promotion of Educational Excellence,and jointly supported by Beijing Growth and Education Development Foundation, and Beijing Jingshan Education Foundation.
On May 16, the “2016 Young Maker Education Forum”sponsoredby CSE was held in Beijing. The Forum was themed on “Maker Spirit, Global Views and Smart Future.”
On May 18, jointly sponsored by the Basic Education International Exchange and Research Center of CSE and Beijing International Chinese College, and organized by Beijing No.55 High School, the exchange activity of “Diplomats on Campus” was successfully held.Students in Beijing No.55 High Schoolperformedseveral traditional Chinese features for the guests, including lion dance, guqin playing, and Chinese yo-yo. Diplomats from Ireland, Hungary, Vietnam, Lithuania, Nigeria and Bengal, along with their accompanying family members, visited the Biology classroom, Handwork classroom and Technology classroom, and experienced the assembling of cars and making of rubbings.
On May 19, sponsored by CSE and organized by the Bureau of Education and Sports of Shinan District, Qingdao City, the “CSE Wok Planning Conference for Education Reform Pilot Zone under the 13th Five-Year Plan&Research Seminar on Digital Teachingin Shinan District” was held in Shinan District, Qingdao. This Conference was aimed at launching the project of Education Reform Pilot Zone under the 13th Five-Year Plan, and promoting achievements in teaching reform which could serve as examples.
From May 27 to 29, sponsored by CSE, and organized by theJuvenile Innovation Education and Research Center of CSE and School of Mathematical Sciences in Capital Normal University (CNU), the “Training Program for Heads of Experimental Bases for China Youth Maker Olympiad Activities” was held in CNU.
On June 18 and 19, jointly sponsored by CSE and the People’s Government of Karamay, the Meeting for Promotion of “Education Mode Innovation and School Transformation Practice” of National Teaching Achievements in Basic Education of CSE was held in Karamay, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Director Zheng Fuzhi of Department of Basic Education IIof the Ministry of Education (MOE) attended and addressed the Meeting. This Meeting, with theme forums, seminars and exchanges, field research and poster exhibitions, presented the management and teaching patterns featuring “course selection, class rotation and teaching stratification” and tutorial system in Karamay.
On June 22 and 23, the opening ceremony of “The Annual Conference of Early Childhood Education of CSE (2016)—The Early Childhood Education in Cultural Context” was held in Shanghai Exhibition Center. The Conference was jointly sponsored by CSE and East China Normal University (ECNU), and organized by Pre-School Education Professional Commission of CSE and Faculty of Education Sciences of ECNU. Vice President Dai Jiagan of CSE and Director Yuan Zhenguo of Faculty of Education Sciences in ECNU attended and addressed the ceremony. The celebrated German early childhood educator Wassilios E. On June 24, the “Press Conference of the MOOCAP (Massive Open Online Courses of China Advanced Placement) Pilot Project” was held in Beijing. During the Conference, the site of MOOCAP was announced to officially launch on iCourse.cn, and the first 30 courses would be available for free.
On June 30, the promotional video of CSE, Let’s Offer Education Services at a Higher Level Together, was finished and officially released. By focusing on such key words as “leadership,”“cultivation,”“support,”“service” and “convergence,” this video presented the outstanding features of CSE, including its leading role in the academic community, education services, professionalism and dedication, exchanges and convergence, sense of responsibility as a platform organization, and philosophy and missions.
On July 6, sponsored by CSE, the second phase of the national training plan of “Legacy of Calligraphy — National Calligraphy Teacher Training Program of Primary and Secondary Schools” for North and Northeast China was officially launched in Beijing.
On July 7, the “2016 Interim Working Conference for CSE Branches” was held in Beijing.
On July 12 and 13, the “Third National Forum on the Development of Future Educators & Second National Meeting of Educator Development Union” was held in Daxing District, Beijing with “Education Innovation Is the Holy Mission for Contemporary Educators” as its theme.The event was sponsored by CSEand organized by the Future Educationalists Magazine, Daxing District Education Commission of Beijing, Beichen District Education Bureau of Tianjin, and Langfang Education Bureau of Hebei Province.The agenda of the two-day meeting included keynote reports, eight theme forums, eight case forums, and special interviews among others. Director Yuan Zhenguo of the Faculty of Education Sciences in ECNU attended the closing ceremony and made a summary speech. More than 1,000 principals and teachers from preschools, primary and secondary schools in China attended the event.

On August 15 and 16, the “Ninth Cross-Strait Seminar on Youth Education,” sponsored by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, CSE and Taiwan Provincial Education Association, was held in Chengdu.This Seminar focused on the theme of “Issues and Prospects of Youth.”
On themorningofSeptember10, the activity “Tiny Seeds Bearing Big Astronautics Dreams, Inheriting Spirit of Qian Xuesen & Astronautic Science Education” was held in Beijing. The No.12 Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with CSE and Education Commission of Dongcheng District respectively. Dongcheng District Youth Science and Technology Museum and 27 primary and secondaryschools in Beijing supported by CSE and No.12 Academy of CASC carried out educational activities of astronautic science on space mutation breeding and space carrying. At the hall of Qinglan Plaza in Beijing, the seeds carried by China’s SJ-10 recoverable satellite were handed over by Qian Yonggang, the son of Qian Xuesen, to student representatives from over ten primary and secondaryschools nationwide. Meanwhile, an award ceremony was held, during which 18 schools, 36 teachers and 71 primary and secondaryschool students from six provinces and cities across the nation were honored for their outstanding performance in educational activities of astronautic science.
On the evening of September 10, Yang Nianlu, Secretary General of CSE, attended the 2016 award ceremony for “The Most Beautiful Teachers in China”broadcast by CCTV-1, and presented the award to one of the winners Liang Yan.
On September 17,the 2016 International Jury Meeting of Award for Asia-Pacific Educational Innovation (Wenhui) was held in Beijing. The award was sponsored by the National Commission of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) for UNESCO and the UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Education in Asia and the Pacific, and organized by CSE. Du Yue, Secretary General of National Commission of PRC for UNESCO, and Zhong Binglin, President of CSE, attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Themed on “Innovative Cooperation Relationship for High Quality Inclusive Education,” the 2016 Wenhui Award received 15 educational scientific and research achievements from the Asian-Pacific regionfor the final, which were recommended by UNESCO Regional Offices and the National Commissionsin various countries for UNESCO.Eight experts from the UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Education in Asia and the Pacific, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Indiaand China were present at the meeting and selected the winners.
On September 19, in accordance with the requirements inRegulationsof The Chinese Society of Education, Secretary General Yang Nianlu was appointed as a new Vice President, which had been passed by 189 directors (more than two thirds of the total) during the SeventhBoard Teleconferenceof the SeventhBoard of Directors. The decision was then approved by MOE and reported to the Ministry of Civil Affairs to be placed on record.
From September 19 to 23, at the invitation of AQA, the CSE delegation paid a three-day visit to AQA, Holling worth Academy, Bishop Challoner School, and Alec Reed Academy, and discussed the cooperation programs with major leaders from AQA and Oxford International AQA Examinations.

On October 13 and 14, the “2016 Annual Academic Conference of Primary School Education Professional Commission of CSE &Third International Seminar on Primary School Education” was held in Beijing. The discussions were centered on the theme “Healthy and Happy Growth of All Children: On Innovative Ways to Establish Teacher Workforce.”
From October 25 to 29, jointly sponsored by CSE, Taiwan Provincial Education Association, and Xiamen Bureau of Education, the “TenthCross-StraitForum of One Hundred Principals of Primary and SecondarySchools” was held in Chang Yung-Fa Foundation International Conference Center, Taipei. Themed on “Education of Life Skills,” the Forum was divided into four sub-forums, includingPrimary School, Middle School, High School, and Vocational School.
On October 26, organized by the Research and Assessment Center for International Education Courses of CSE, the authorization ceremony of “Oxford AQA International A-Level Courses Learning Center” was held in CC English School, Guiyang City.
On October 29, the “2016 International Forum on Family Education of CSE” was held in Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province.
On October 29, the “Seminar on Exploration and Practice of Incorporating Schools into Groups” themed on “Sharing, Linkage and Creative Life” was held in Shijia Primary School in Dongcheng District, Beijing. On November 8, the launch ceremony of the CSE (Jingyue) Education Reform Pilot Zone under the 13th Five-Year Plan was held in Jingyue National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Changchun City, Jilin Province.
On November 11, the “STEAM Course Alliance (under planning)” of CSE held its first symposium in Beijing, aiming to discuss its development strategy, organizational structure, working mechanism and future values. On November 20 and 21, the “2016 International Conference on Educational Innovation & Award Ceremony for Asia-Pacific Educational Innovation (Wenhui)” was held in Beijing.It was jointly sponsored by the UNESCO Field Offices in the Asian-Pacific Region, National Commission of PRC for UNESCO, and CSE, and organized by the Education Commission of Haidian District, Beijing.The Science of Life Studies 24/7 (Malaysia) and Organization for Awareness of Integrated Social Security (India)became the winners of the 2016 Wenhui Award, and four organizations won the Honorable Commendations, including the Dhaka Ahsania Mission (Bangladesh), Institute of Technical Education (Singapore), OzGREEN Global Rivers Environmental Education Network Australia Inc.(Australia), and Plan International in Asia (Thailand). The Haidian Institute of Education Sciences in Beijing won the FirstExcellence Award for China Educational Innovation of Wenhui Award with the educational project themed on “Climate Changes” in Primary and Secondary Schools.After the award ceremony, the Conference held a forum themed on “Quality, Inclusiveness and Innovation—Educational Cooperation and Development in the Strategic Background of ‘Belt and Road.’”
On December 3, the “2016 World Arts Education Summit” was held in Hangzhou. Sponsored by CSE and World Alliance for Arts Education, this Summit was organized by ZJCM and E-Platform International Education,and co-organized by the Department of Education of Zhejiang Province, Department of Culture of Zhejiang Province,and Zhejiang Society of Education.It was themed on “Sustainable Development of Arts Education.”Peng Jixiang, Executive Vice Dean of Meishi Film Academy in Chongqing University and former Dean of School of Arts in PKU, Ernst Wagner, lecturer and researcher of University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany and Chairman of UNESCO Arts and Culture Education, Wang Minzhu, Vice Principal of the Unified High School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, and Rose Martin, senior lecturer of Dance Studies of University of Auckland in New Zealand,delivered keynote speeches respectively titledDevelopment of China’s Aesthetic Education and Arts Education in the New Period, The Future We Want—Arts Being the Key &Arts Education and Sustainable Development, Arts Education Adds Vibrancy to Children’s Life, and Female, Dance and Revolution.During the three-day summit, 12 parallel forums were also held.
On the morning of December 7, the opening ceremony of the third intensive training session of the “Development and Promotion Project for Rural Educators” was held in Shishi Primary School, Chengdu. The public program was sponsored by CSE, organized by Sichuan Association for Promotion of Educational Excellence, and jointly supported by Beijing Growth and Education Development Foundation, and Beijing Jingshan Education Foundation. On December 17, the first meeting of the CSE “Special Inspectors” was held in Chengdu. Yang Nianlu, Vice President and Secretary General of CSE, attended and addressed the meeting.
On December 17 and 18, sponsored by CSE and organized by Sichuan Association for Promotion of Educational Excellence, the 29th Academic Annual Conference of CSE was held in Jintang County, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province.The theme of the Conference was “Improving Quality: The Foundation of Innovative Development of Education.”Wang Zhan, former Vice Minister of Education, member of the National Education Advisory Committee, andconsultant of CSE, Zhu Muju and Yin Houqing, Vice Presidents of CSE, and Ye Cuiwei, Principal of Hangzhou No.2 High School of Zhejiang Province and Vice President of Senior High School Education Professional Commission of CSE, made keynote speeches during the Conference, respectively titled Strategic Significance and Methodological Features of Improving Education Quality under the New Circumstances,Revision of Curriculum Standards for SeniorHigh Schools,Reform of Basic Education in the New Era of Quality, and A Report of Teaching Quality. Based on its theme, the Conference also organized a guest interview, two panel discussions, ten sub-forums and eleven micro-forums. On December 18, at the closing ceremony of the 29th Academic Annual Conference of CSE, the winners of Most Powerful Reviews of CSE in 2016 were presented with awards, and letters of appointment were issued to the 23 special inspectors of CSE.
On December 19, commissioned by Chengdu Bureau of Education and sponsored by CSE, the launch ceremony of the “Pilot Workshop for High School Principals in Chengdu” was held in the Middle School Attached to Sichuan Normal University. Twenty-five selected principal-trainees attended the ceremony.
On December 19 and 20, the “First CSE AQA International A-Level Lecturer Training Session” was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The trainer team members included Ms. Stella Paes, Head of Science at AQA, and several Chinese trainers with over ten years of experience in A-Level teaching and management. More than 30 A-Level teachers attended the Session, and they camefrom nearly ten provinces and cities, including BeijingMunicipality, ShanghaiMunicipality, Guangdong Province, Liaoning Province, Shandong Province and Guizhou Province.
On December 27, the “Colloquium on Exploration and Practice of Private Educational Teachers’ Professional Norms&2016 Status Investigation Report Release of the Private Educational Industry and Teachers”of CSE was held in Beijing International Convention Center. At the Colloquium, the Status Investigation Report of China’s Private Educational Industry and Teachers was issued, and the professional appraisal registration for private educational teachers was launched.Besides, the “First Pilot Units”of the professional appraisal programfor private educational teachers were officially announced, including Tomorrow Advancing Life, Xueda Education, 1Smart Education, Gaosi Education, Youwin Education, and Beijing Dishu Technology Co., Ltd.
